When it comes to strength training and home workouts, resistance bands are better than cables because anyone can get them without breaking the bank and help you to conveniently build more strength, muscle mass anywhere at any time.
While having both cables and resistance bands in your workout rotation can create great results (which you will learn more about later), resistance bands do offer more advantages.
There is a good chance that resistance bands will become your new best friend.

Another amazing thing about resistance bands is that you can bring them pretty much anywhere you want.
Cable machines take up a lot of space and are very heavy, so moving your cable machine around will not be an easy task.
A cable machine can easily weigh up to 500 pounds. However, most resistance bands only weight a few pounds or even less than 1 pound!
Resistance bands are super lightweight and you can carefully fold them up and put them in your gym bag.
So if you want to workout in a park or a gym, you can easily bring your resistance band with you.

According to this study , resistance bands follow your muscles strength curve a lot better than cables would.
This is especially true for workouts where your muscles follow a movement that is called an ascending strength curve.
While this seems confusing, it is actually pretty simple once you break it down.
A strength curve is how much torque is made by the muscles at various joint angles during your range of motion.
So depending on what kind of exercises you do, your strength curve could be parabolic, descending, or ascending.
Exercises where your muscles follow an ascending strength curve include shoulder presses, bench presses, and squats.
So, how do resistance bands enhance these kinds of exercises?
Resistance bands can help you recover from a position where your muscles are at their weakest.
They also offer you the right amount of loading while your muscles are at their strongest.

When I use resistance bands, I often feel some of my body parts slightly vibrate and it can be harder to maintain my posture. But why does that happen?
It happens because my body is using more muscles to keep my body stable while maintaining good posture.
So I get to enhance my overall strength more with the same exercises by using resistance bands for strength and resistance training .
Cables only offer fixed resistance training, which means the results are not as effective as they would be if you used resistance bands.

Resistance bands offer variable resistance that lets you focus on specific parts of your range of motion to help train them.

While resistance bands have many advantages, that does not mean they are always great.
For instance, I know I get frustrated whenever I am in the middle of my workout and my resistance band decides to roll up.

Cables can give you continuous tension. You may also set up your cables to copy any sport movement if you have an adjustable cable station.
2. You Get Resistance Like Dumbbells
You can get the same resistance from dumbbells by using cables.
However, the bonus is that you can adjust the direction of force, which makes resistance training with cables better than dumbbell training as this study states .
So you are not limited to up and down movements as you would be with dumbbells. Cables let you pull your body from different angles to help you get a full workout.
3. Cables Are Comfortable
Cables have handles that you can hold onto and they are very comfortable.
Most cables have a cushion surrounding the handles to let you have a comfortable workout.
Resistance bands have no handles and sometimes they might fold and put a lot of pressure on your hands.
While I believe you can get used to the pressure, it can feel uncomfortable at first.

Cables have loads of fun attachments that you can use to diversify your workout.
These attachments help you train almost every muscle, which is great for both athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Even if resistance bands can greatly improve your strength, muscle mass and are extremely convenient, they are not a complete replacement for cables and you should use them as well from time to time.
