Hi there, my name is Bozhidar and in this article, I will try my best to answer all those questions and use all my experience and knowledge to help you pick the best pull-up bar for your home gym.

Don’t worry it’s pretty easy once you know the basics.

As a person who actually owns 2 different pull-up bars (one is in my room and one is at my villa), I really know a lot of things you might find useful.

Here are the 2 pull-up bars I’m talking about

So without any further ado let’s jump right in!

In a hurry?

If you do not have enough time to read the whole article (which is something I highly recommend you do) and you just want to learn which pull-up bar is truly the best then I highly recommend you to check out my personal favorite one I use every time in my room – the Yes4All Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar. Even if I own 2 different models from the same company I prefer to train on this one because it’s super wide, very sturdy and has plenty of space between the bar and the wall.

It can also support up to 500 lbs (which is enough for me), it’s held to the wall with 8 long screws (included) and it’s made from solid thick steel.

But the best part is the fact that you have the option to also adjust the bar in 2 different positions (closer or further from the wall).

After using it for a while now I can easily say this is one very sturdy bar which has one of the best prices I have seen and that’s why I highly recommend you to check it out.

With that out of the way let’s see which are the other important things I want to show you next.

Let’s get more in-depth and start with the first one which is my favorite…

1. Yes4All Heavy Duty Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar – Best Wall-Mounted Pull Up Bar for Home Gym

Important Details:

  • Maximum Weight: 500 lbs
  • Bar Width: 50 in. (127 cm)
  • Distance from wall: 32 in. max. (81 cm)
  • Number of holding bolts: 8

My overall experience and opinion:

After using it for a while I can say without any doubth that this is the best wall-mounted pull-up bar you can get for your home for that price range.

It has а very good geometry for extra stability, an extremely wide pull-up bar (50 inches), and a lot of space between you and the wall. (32 inches if you choose the furthest hole).

All those things give you a ton of extra space in any direction so you can move and train freely without any constraints.

If you have high enough ceilling you can even do muscle-ups and over the bar chest dips.

Sadly I don’t have that much height in my room where I’ve installed it but it’s still enough for me to do most of the exercises without any problems.

When it comes to safety it’s good to know that each side of the pull-up bar is strongly attached to the wall with the help of 8 long bolts which are included in the package. Sadly they are not that great so you may need to buy new ones for a couple of extra bucks in your local hardware store.

The combination of that and the good tough steel makes this wall-mounted pull-up bar very sturdy and safe to use.

I’ve done countless of exercises, attached resistance bands, gymnastic rings and even a punching bag and there aren’t any problems.

The whole thing stays firmly in one place even as I’m writing this.

And let’s not forget the fact that it can withstand 500 lbs of weight (which is higher than the standard)

But there is another cool thing I haven’t told you yet. The simple but very effective design of my design Yes4All pull-up bar can also be mounted to the ceiling if you have enough height. (I haven’t tried it but I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t)

Price and overall value: Even tho you can currently choose one of 3 different but similar pull-up bars the heavy-duty edition (the one from the picture above) is so far the best one I’ve used. And from what I’ve seen it is priced only at a small fraction of what other brands will take for such a wide and multi-purpose pull-up bar. So when it comes to price to the value I would give it a 9.5 out of 10 in this category. The price is really good compared to what you get.

Number of exercises and type of training: Because this pull-up bar is really wide, is completely straight, and has plenty of space between the wall or ceiling it’s perfect for regular training and explosive as well. If your ceiling allows it you will be able to do muscle-ups, over-the-bar dips, and more explosive movements that require space and stability. I’ve done all of that on it without any issues. And because of the design, you can do a ton more exercises and attach plenty of different things so an 8 out of 10 is a good score in this category.

Stability and safety: Even if the included mounting bolts are not good once you buy new ones the whole construction becomes really solid and safe. After all this pull-up bar is held by 8 bolts and can easily withstand up to 500 lbs of weight. So I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 in terms of stability and safety.

Width and overall space: Because this is the widest and the farthest bar from the wall you’ve easily get a ton of available space to move around. I’ve literally done any pull-up bar exercise you can think of on it and attach plenty of things so without any problems so that’s why I would easily rate it a 10 out of 10 in this category.

What makes it unique and better than the rest?: What makes this pull-up bar unique and better than the rest is the very wide 50-inch bar (127 cm), the huge amount of space you get from the wall, and the fact that you can even attach it to the ceiling if you have enough height. I don’t know about you but for the money, it cost you won’t be able to find anything better than this.

Who is this pull-up bar best for?: Because of the bigger design this pull-up bar needs to be used by someone who has a lot of space near his walls. But if you do then you should be fine because this bar is perfect for doing calisthenics, weighted training, and even explosive movements. It is also great for people that have other home gym equipment they would want to hang as well. Are there any good alternatives: If for some reason you can’t buy it or don’t like the brand you can get the Titan Fitness one (click here to check it out). It has roughly the same dimensions and quality but it’s a little bit more expensive. But it’s a good alternative you may like.

What I like:

  • This is the widest pull-up bar I’ve seen
  • It also has the ability to be mounted to the ceiling because of the big space it has between the bar and the wall.
  • Great option for mucsle ups and other type of explosive training
  • It uses 8 instead of 6 bolts to be attached
  • Very well made from thick steel
  • Works perfectly with my resistance bands, gymnastic rings and punching bag

What I don’t like:

  • The included mounting bolts are not very good. I had to buy other ones for a few extra bucks.
  • There were no installation instruction. (At least for me) The process is not that difficult but it can be little hard without them.

Quick Summary:

As you can see this is my favorite pull-up bar not by mistake.

It’s really affordable, extremely well made, and offers a lot of space and freedom of movement.

If you have enough room to place it I highly recommend you to get it. It’s one of the best products I’ve ever seen.

2. ONETWOFIT Wall-Mounted Pull-Up Bar – Best Wall-Mounted Pull Up Bar for Beginners

The other pull-up bar I own. It’s still very good.

Click Here to check Yes4All bar’s latest price on Amazon

Important Details:

  • Maximum Weight: 440 lbs
  • Bar Width: 38.1 in. (97 cm)
  • Distance from wall: 25.5 in. (65 cm)
  • Number of holding bolts: 6

My overall experience and opinion:

The next pull-up bar I want to show is the second one I own and use (in my villa).

I’ve decided to call it “the best pull-up bar for beginners” because it’s was the first pull-up bar I bought when I was just starting out.

It’s also very budget-friendly, compact, and has a bunch of different handles and thick padding making it an excellent choice for people who are just starting out or don’t have enough room to install the first one.

But even with it’s great price the quality is still on point. This specific model mounts on the wall using 2 mounting plates each having 3 holes with the help of 6 long bolts (also included).

I’ve had this pull-up bar for a very long time and have abused it a lot but it’s still holding in one place making me believe that I’ve made the right choice.

As a matter of fact, this pull bar can hold up to 300 pounds of weight which is amazing having in mind that it is shorter, lighter and cheaper compared to the other 4 pull-up bars I have in this list.

In my opinion the smaller size makes it a perfect addition to any smaller room or space in your home and the huge variety of different grips adds a big variety to your upper body workouts.

You can do all sorts of pull-ups, chin-ups, attach multiple bands and rings, and still have enough holding space left.

In addition the padding saves you a couple of bucks on workout gloves because it helps with sweat and fatigue.

Price and overall value: Because this is one of the cheapest pull-up bars I’ve seen I have to say it offers very good value for the price. You get an additional neutral grip, padded handles, and 3 carabiner holes you can use for attaching different pulley systems, resistance bands, or a punching bag. Because of that, I would rate it 9 out of 10 when it comes to price and overall value.

Number of exercises and type of training: Because of the extra neutral grip handle and the 3 holes you can do more exercises if you compare it to a pull-up bar that has the same size but doesn’t have those. That’s why this bar is great for normal type of training that is not explosive or needs a ton of space. After all this pull-up bar is designed to be somewhat compact so that makes it perfect for any home gym or a beginner who doesn’t need a huge and heavy pull-up bar. So because of all that I would rate it a 7 out of 10 in this category.

Stability and safety: I’ve used this pull-up bar many times and once attached it hasn’t moved a bit so I think it’s quite safe. After all, it can handle 440 lbs plus it is attached using 6 bolts instead of 4. So an 8.5 out of 10 is going to be a great rating in this category.

Width and overall space: Even if the ONETWOFIT pull-up bar is not the widest it’s still pretty far away from the wall so you won’t have any problems doing leg raises or do other space-demanding exercises without having any problems. You have enough space below to even attach rings and be able to do many of the basic exercises as well. So in terms of overall space and freedom of movement, I’m going to give a solid 8 out of 10.

What makes it unique and better than the rest?: Even if there are many similar models I prefer this pull-up bar because it is attached with 6 bolts instead of 4, it has 25.5 inches of space between the bar and the wall which is far longer than what other brands offer at this price range and the 3 little carabiner holes. I really dig those and love to use them to hang my punching bag. Not many models offer these.

Who is this pull-up bar best for?: Because of the compact design and low price this pull-up bar is the perfect choice for somebody who doesn’t have a huge budget or a lot of space but still wants to have a fully functional pull-up bar at his home gym. After using it for a while now I have to say that this pull-up bar is perfect for both bodyweight or weighted exercises so you won’t have any problems if your main goal is to build more muscle and strength. So if you have the available space and are looking for something affordable and solid this is the pull-up bar for you.

Are there any good alternatives: If this pull-up bar is out of stock or you simply want more choice then a great alternative should be the HIRALIY Pull-Up Bar (click here to check it out). It has a longer pull-up bar compared to the one I have but it’s half closer to the wall which may be a problem for some people. But if you are looking for more width and a great product then take a look.

What I like:

  • Very affordable and the best budget pull-up bar you can get
  • Extra padding for better grip
  • Have the option to do neutral grip (good for wrist)
  • Sturdy and safe once attached
  • Compact Design that doesn’t take much space

What I don’t like:

  • Harder to do muscle-ups and other explosive exercises
  • Attachment screws that come are not that great
  • It’s a little too close to the wall but it’s not that bad

Quick Summary:

With its affordable price, light, compact, and easy to assemble design, and different handle options I believe that this simpler pull-up bar is an ideal first choice for beginners who don’t want to invest too much into a pull-up bar but still want to get all the features.

It requires less space, is really well made and it’s easier on the hands because of the thick padding. Give a closer look if you want more details.

3. Gronk Fitness Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar – Most Durable Wall-Mounted Pull Up Bar for Home Gym

One of the toughest pull-up bars I have even seen
One of the toughest pull-up bars I have even seen

Click Here to check Gronk Fitness bar’s latest price on Amazon

Important Details:

  • Maximum Weight: 800 lbs
  • Bar Width: 48 in. (121 cm)
  • Distance from wall: 14 in. (35 cm) (closest) 22 in. (55 cm)(furthest)
  • Number of holding bolts: 6

My overall experience and opinion:

As you can see from the picture above this very solid piece of equipment is what every pull-up bar should look like.

It is constructed with thick solid steel, can withstand the amazing 800 lbs of weight.

Additionally has a 48-inch long pull-up bar with a ton of different grip options.

I don’t know about you but for me those numbers speak only one thing – quality.

With the help of the 2 heavy duty wall mounted brackets and 6 long and thick bolts (again included) you can train without fear knowing that you are very safe and secured.

But my favorite part of this whole wall-mounted pull-up bar is the middle part.

I don’t know who has designed it but I’m really impressed by the huge number of different angles and places you can hold or attach additional equipment.

And let’s not forget the little arch of the bar which helps on the wrists and the mind-muscle connection.

Speaking of angles and arches you can do all kinds of pulling exercises without any problems.

Some of them are inverted grip, alternative grip, wide-grip and any possible grip you can think of.

The bar is stable enough so it also gives you the freedom to do muscle ups if you have height.

Even if the Gronk Fitness pull-up bar is missing padding it’s still one amazingly designed pull-up bar worth place on your wall.

Price and overall value: Even if this pull-up bar is more expensive than the majority is s still worth the price because it’s made with commercially strong and durable steel which is powder-coated so you won’t have any issues with rust. Trust me it’s really bad when your gym equipment gets rust and you have to disassemble and clean it. In addition to that, I really like the huge variety of different handles and the overall width and distance from the wall so in my opinion the price is well justified. Because of that, I would give it a rating of 9 out of 10 for value and price.

Number of exercises and type of training: Because of the huge number of different handles spaced uniquely you can do way more pull-up and chin-up variations compared to a basic one or two tube design. In addition to that, it will be very easy to attach multiple other attachments like bands, rings, a punching bag, etc. and they won’t have anywhere to go because of the way the bars are welded. So with this pull-up bar, you would be able to do a huge number of exercises for every type of training you can think of. It works great with basic bodyweight training, weighted training, and even explosive type of movements as well. So because of all those things, a 9.5 out of 10 is going to be a fair rating.

Stability and safety: With the 6 bolt attachment and the thick and strong steel this pull-up bar is going nowhere. After all, it’s rated to hold 800 lbs which is massive. So far I haven’t seen any pull-up bar that can withstand so much weight. Because of that, this bar will be super safe and stable to use no matter what you throw at it. And for that, I would rate it a 10 out of 10 in my stability and safety comparison category.

Width and overall space: Even if this pull-up bar has multiple grips the width is still very good if we compare it to the other options. With its 48 in. (121 cm) width and 22 in. (55 cm) furthest space from the wall you can be sure you won’t have any problems with doing more energy-demanding exercises. I’ve trained a couple of times on a very similar one and the space from the wall and width are perfect so you won’t have to think about anything except the workout. So to be fair I would rate it a 9 out of 10 in this category.

What makes it unique and better than the rest?: As you can see from the image above the overall design and huge weight capacity of 800 lbs makes it really stand out from the crowd. In addition, the materials are very good and won’t bend, break, or rust. And for the first time, I would say that the included mounting bolts are also really nice so you won’t have to buy new ones. It’s an overall great pull-up bar for a home gym you can buy.

Who is this pull-up bar best for?: From personal experience, I can say that this pull-up bar is best for people who are looking for something extremely durable and safe. If you are really into pull-ups you will love this pull-up bar because it has multiple different grips to use in order to make your workouts more fun and unique. So if you are looking to buy a pull-up bar for a home gym that can be used for anything the Gronk Fitness pull-up bar is a great option to consider.

Are there any good alternatives: If you are looking for some cheaper alternatives that can do the exact same job the Yes4All Heavy Duty pull-up bar is pretty similar (click here to check it out). Sadly it can withstand only 300 lbs compared to the 800 lbs Gronk Fitness already do but if weight capacity is not that much important for you and you want to save some cash you can check it out as well. Even tho there are other similar pull-up bars nothing can beat the 800 lbs weight capacity and solid materials you get with Gronk Fitness.

What I like:

  • It can hold a ton of weight – 800 pounds
  • Provides big number of different variations of grips for pull-ups and chin-ups
  • Very safe and sturdy
  • It is attached securely with 6 long bolts.
  • Made from thick steel with a good smooth finish
  • Very wide and offers plenty of holding space

What I don’t like:

  • It can be a little too close to the wall if using the closest grip (about 12 inches)
  • Doesn’t have non-slip padding and sometimes you may need to use chalk

Quick Summary:

If you are looking for the strongest pull-up bar you can find on the market you should definitely check the Gronk Fitness pull-up bar.

This beast can withstand up to 800 lbs of weight (more than any other bar I’ve seen), has a ton of different grip options and 48 inches of gripping space.

If I already haven’t got 2 pull-up bars I would definitely get this one. It’s a great long-term investment.

4. OneTwoFit Pull Up Bar with Dip Stand – Best Value and Most Affordable Pull-Up Bar for Home Gym

The best pull-up bar set you can get
The best pull-up bar set you can get

Click Here to check OneTwoFit set’s latest price on Amazon

Important Details:

  • Maximum Weight: 330 lbs
  • Bar Width: 38 in. (96 cm)
  • Distance from wall:  24 in. (60 cm)
  • Number of holding bolts: 12

My overall experience and opinion:

When it comes to functionality and exercise variety nothing can beat the OneTwoFit pull-up bar with dip stand set.

With this package for a very reasonable price, you not only get a wide and great pull-up bar but you also get a separate completely functioning get a dip station. (as you can see from the photo above)

But the best part is the fact that you can attach them one below the other as shown in the picture or place them in totally different places giving you complete freedom of choice.

The weight limit on both equipment is 330 pounds and all baring parts are made thich nicely coated steel.

When you combine that with the 12 holding bolts and good design you understand why this set is really sturdy and safe to use.

A few cool extra features are the padded grips, the extra holes for attachment, the thick padded cushions, and the fact that the whole dip station is detachable.

How the whole detachment process is designed
How the whole detachment process is designed

In only a minute or two you can completely detach the dip station so you can have plenty of space underneath the pull-up bar (if he is mounted on top of the dip station).

I find this feature extremely clever and unique (I haven’t seen anything like this) because it can save you some space and give you the option to do more exercises freely or even attach a solid punching bag underneath.

The only real problem you might have with this set is the mountaing hardware.

Sadly it’s only designed for concrete or brick walls and you might have to purchase additional bolts if want to install it on wood.

Price and overall value: I have called this pull-up bar set “best value” for a reason. For a very good price, you have the option to buy not only a decent pull-up bar but a separate dip station as well. Both are separate and can be installed wherever you like so when it comes to price and value this product is a 10 out of 10 no questions asked.

Number of exercises and type of training: Because you get 2 completely different types of workout equipment you have the option to do way more exercises and target an even bigger variety of muscle groups. So the number of exercises is way larger compared to a set containing only a pull-up bar which wins another 10 out of 10 rating from me.

Stability and safety: Sadly both the pull-up bar and the dip station can support only a maximum weight of 330 lbs (150 kg) which is bad compared to some of the previous pull-up bars I’ve reviewed. But if you won’t go near that number or above you won’t have any problems because the overall quality is good. Even if the dip station is easily detachable both things are pretty stable and safe if mounted correctly. So when it comes to my final rating I would give it 7 out of 10 because of the low maximum weight capacity.

Width and overall space: When it comes to width and space from the wall both products have decent metrics. They are not the widest nor the farthest but for this low price, you can’t want more than that. The width of the pull-bar is enough for most exercises and you won’t have any issues regardless of the overall space for a full range of motion so I would rate it a 7.5 out of 10 in this category.

What makes it unique and better than the rest?: As you can already guess the biggest difference between this set compared to the traditional pull-up bar is that you get an extra dip station and a pull-up bar for the same or even a lower price. Sure, they are not a 10/10 when it comes to quality and weight capacity but for the price, they are really great and will do what they are made from without any issues. So if you want the best value money can get you this is the way to go.

Who is this pull-up bar best for?: In my opinion, this combination set is perfect for anybody who doesn’t own a dip station and really wants to include them in his workout. So this wall-mounted set is perfect for anyone who wants to get the maximum for his bucks and wants to get more than just a simple pull-up bar for his home gym. It’s also a great option for people with a limited budget as well because you get 2 things at the price of 1.

Are there any good alternatives: The only alternative I can find worth checking is the ONETWOFIT Multifunctional Wall Mounted Set (click here to check it out). Even tho they are both made from the same company and have a similar price they are not the same. Instead of being 2 separate machines, the alternative set is combined in one big machine which you can easily move around and transform from a pull-up bar to a dip station within a couple of seconds. But this isn’t very safe or stable so I would still recommend the original product because it’s always safer to bolt something to a wall than to attach it in some other way.

What I like:

  • Best value for that price
  • Not only you get a pull-up bar but you also get a dip station
  • You can detach the dip station anytime you want
  • You can mount them wherever you like
  • There is great padding on both stations
  • You can do way more exercises compared to only a pull-up bar
  • Easy to mount and install

What I don’t like:

  • Comes only with concrete mounting hardware
  • Because of that might take additional work and supplies to mount
  • Pull-up bar is not perfect for muscle-ups and other explosive movements

Quick Summary:

If you are looking for more than a pull-up bar and want to have a solid place to do dips and many other exercises I highly recommend you to check the OneTwoFit set.

Every part is made from solid steel and it’s made to last.

In addition to that, the whole dip stand is completely detachable and you can easily use the pull-up bar to its full potential.

The value you get for that price is insane.

5. Stud Bar Mountable Pull Up Bar (Ceiling or Wall) – Most Customizable Wall-Mounted Pull-Up Bar for Home Gym

Really strong and multifunctional pull-up bar

Click Here to check Stud bar’s latest price on Amazon

Important Details:

  • Maximum Weight: 600 lbs
  • Bar Width: 48 in. (121 cm)
  • Distance from wall: 10 in. up to 39 in. (25 – 99 cm) from ceiling or wall.
  • Number of holding bolts: 8

My overall experience and opinion:

Sometimes having the simplest equipment can give the best results and the Stud bar proves exactly that.

With its simple but amazingly strong and sturdy design, this bar is worth every penny.

If your wall is not suitable for a good and wide pull up bar or simply you do not have enough space to install it then you should consider looking into this pull-up bar because you can attach it to your ceilling without any issues.

As you can see from the picture above this pull-up bar is really well made. As you can imagine is made from thick powder-coated steel and can withstand the impressive 600 pounds of weight no matter if you attach it to a wall or the ceiling.

Another really unique and great feature about this pull-up bar is the fact that this bar comes in 3 different sizes.

Yes, you can actually choose the perfect size depending on how much space you really have available.

For example with the Stud bar you can choose a model between 8,9 or 10 feet corresponding to your height or space you want to have between you and the wall.

But in addition to that you also get the impressive 48 inches of width which give you plenty of space to do all kinds of unique exercises.

Just imagine hanging this beast in the middle of your room and choosing the 10 feet model. You will be unstoppable.

Price and overall value: If I compare the Stud bar’s price to its value I have to say they are equally well. Because of the huge and strong design, thick and solid steel, and the options to buy 3 different sizes and attach it to your wall or ceiling I’m going to easily give it an 8.5 out of 10. In this case, you really pay for what you get.

Number of exercises and type of training: Because 2 of the 3 sizes have a ton of space that will separate you from the wall this pull-up bar becomes really good for all types of home workouts. It is also 48 inches wide so you will have a good amount of space on each end as well. That combined makes it perfect for attaching extra home gym equipment like resistance bands, gymnastic rings, punching bag, or a cable pulley so you would be able to do a ton of very unique and great exercises. And because of all of that, I will rate it a 9 out of 10. You won’t have any problem with basic or explosive movements on this bar.

Stability and safety: The combination of good materials, 8 long bolts, and 600 lbs weight capacity make the Stud pull-up bar really safe and stable. Once you attach it the right way you can rest sure this thing is going nowhere. A friend of mine has this pull-up bar and he uses it for difficult calisthenics movements like the planche, front lever, muscle-ups, etc. and he said it’s super solid and safe. And that’s why a 10 out of 10 rating in this category is well deserved.

Width and overall space: Even if this pull-up bar is not the widest compared to the Yes4All model (which is 50 inches wide) I use it is still very wide with only a 2-inch difference. When you combine that with their biggest model with 32 inches from ceiling or wall this thing is huge. That is nearly double more space compared to most pull-up bars and a lot bigger if we directly compare it to the 4 ones above. But don’t forget that you will need a lot of floor and height space to be able to attach it and use it. But even tho this pull-up bar is huge and wins a 9.5 out of 10 in the width and overall space category for me.

What makes it unique and better than the rest?: The first things that make this pull-up bar a lot better than the rest are its massive weight capacity of 600 lbs, the very wide width of 48 inches, the staggering 32 inches (81 cm) distance from the wall or ceiling you can achieve if you buy the biggest model currently available. And let’s not forget the fact that you even have the option to move the pull-up bar closer or further from the wall in 2 out of their 3 models.

Who is this pull-up bar best for?: If you are somebody with a ton of wall space or a really high ceiling and you want to do and learn all kinds of great bodyweight movements like my friend then this pull-up bar is perfect for you. But it’s still a great choice if you only want to use it to attach different equipment or do some normal pull-ups and chin-ups. It’s very wide, study and gives you plenty of space to do whatever you like. So all of that combined makes it one of the best pull-up bars you can get for your home gym. You only need some space.

Are there any good alternatives: The only worthy opponent I can think of is my own pull-up bar from Yes4All (click here to check it out). It has an almost identical width but it’s 2 inches wider and provides very good space from the wall but its weight capacity is 100 lbs weaker. You can attach both pull-up bars on your wall or ceiling making it a worthy alternative. So if you want better safety go with the Stud bar and if you need more width go with my Yes4All pull-up bar.

What I like:

  • It’s held tight with 8 instead of 6 bolts
  • It’s a very strong pull-up bar that can hold up to 600 lbs which is double compared to some other models.
  • Very wide and has plenty of above-the-bar space. Especially if you go for the largest size.
  • You are given the option to choose the size depending on your ceiling height
  • Very good materials and great quality
  • It is designed so it can be mounted on both ceiling or wall

What I don’t like:

  • There isn’t any curve. I like to have a little curve on the wider parts.
  • Sadly the 8 included mounting bolts are not that great and you may need to buy other ones

Quick Summary:

If you are looking for a really sturdy, wide, and tall pull-up bar that can easily be attached to both a wall and a ceiling you should take a closer look at the Stud pull-up bar.

This pull-up bar is the most customizable model I have seen because you can pick the right size for you and your space.

And the price is also really good!

That’s why I highly recommend you to check it out.

9 Features to Look for When Buying the Best Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar

Even if these things are not necessary I highly recommend you to read them because they can save you a lot of money, time and headaches along the way.

Here we go…

1. What grip options does the pull-up bar provide you with?

Most pull-up bars provide only 2 grip options – the overhand grip for pull-ups and the underhand grip for chin-ups. Some models have extra tubing that allows you to do neutral grip as well. And a few unique models come with a huge variety of gip options you can use.

So which one is the best one?

The answer to this question really depens on you and your workout goals and exercises you want to do.

You can either pick the simplest pull-up bar design having no options to the exact opposite.

The grip features each model has really vary from one another but there are certain things you can look for when picking the best wall-mounted pull-up bar for your home gym.

Is having multiple grip options better?

Having multiple grip options on a pull-up bar is always a good thing to have. It allows you to have variety when it comes to doing pulling exercises. That variety will result in you targeting your muscles at different angles which will lead to better development and size of your upper body.

But on the other hand sticking tubes can get in your way when doing explosive movements like muscle ups and over-the-bar dips.

So it really depends on what you want.

2. Should you be able to do dips on your pull-up bar?

While you can easily do dips on top of your pull-up bar if you have enough available space above some models come with a separate dip station as an extra part. That way you could install both pieces and have the option to do way more exercises altogether.

If you don’t have a solid way to do any dips like gymnastic rings, dip bars, or another dip station I highly recommend you to buy a set that contains both of those things rather than picking only a pull-up bar because that way for the same money you get 2 very important pieces.

And you also save money as well.

In addition to that, you can give your chest and triceps a good workout and make them grow equally well as your back.

Let’s not forget about that!

3. How much weight can a wall-mounted pull-up bar support?

Most wall-mounted pull-up bars have a weight capacity of between 330 lbs to 800 lbs. (150 to 363 kg). So in order to be safe, it is recommended not to use any pull-up bar that supports less than 330 lbs because it could potentially break and harm you.

Preferably the bigger the weight capacity number is the better the overall quality of the pull-up bar will be.

You want to use something that can hold at least 330 pounds. (150 kg)

Don’t forget that the mounting system and the bolts do play a huge role when it comes to handling the weight.

In short, if you install your wall-mounted pull-up bar correctly and even buy better and stronger bolts you will somehow increase the overall sturdiness which will result in better weight capacity.

4. Can you attach additional workout equipment to a pull-up bar?

Some pull-up bars come with prebuilt extra carabiner holes you can use to attach things such as punching bags, elbow hanging straps, TRX handles, ropes, and cable pulleys. But in general, you should be able to attach extra equipment like resistance bands and gymnastic rings to any wide enough pull-up bar.

If you are thinking to attach extra workout accessories that use carabiners then this little extra feature can be useful to you when you are searching for the best wall-mounted pull-up bar.

If you don’t care about that, then every model that has a decent width and height will do the job just right.

5. Is the included mounting hardware for pull-up bars any good?

Unfortunately, the mounting hardware that most pull-up bars come with is weak and usually not strong enough to hold the bar in one place for a long period of time or support the needed weight. In addition, some models don’t come with the right bolts you can use for different surfaces like concrete, bricks, or wood.

That is the main problem that requires you to buy new bolts that are longer, stronger, and made for the specific wall or ceiling material you want to attach the pull-up bar to.

Because of that here’s a useful tip that can save you a lot of headaches.

Quick Tip:

Before you install the pull-up bar make sure that the bolts that came in with the package are long, strong enough, and made specifically for the type of wall you want to hold it on.

You can always go out and buy longer and thicker ones if needed or simply read the reviews online. That way the whole construction will become more stable and safe.

This little thing will definitely help with the longevity of your pull-up bar.

6. How many bolts usually hold a pull-up bar?

On overage, a wall or ceiling mounted pull-up bar is held with 4 to 8 bolts. The number of bolts varies for each model but in general, the bigger the number of bolts is, the more secure the pull-up bar will become.

Yes, I know that nobody likes to drill more holes into his wall but the more bolts are holding you in the air, the less chance of you falling down there is.

So it will not hurt for you to double check that number before you order the perfect pull-up bar for you.

7. What materials are best for a pull-up bar?

When it comes to pull-up bars the best material you can get is thick and strong stainless steel that has a powder coating against rust and scratches. That way your pull-up bar will withstand anything and still look the same after years of use.

If you are reading this then you probably want something that is really durable and made with high-quality materials?

If the answer to that question is yes, then my recommendation would be to not be cheap when it comes to the quality of the materials of your pull-up bar.

Even if it will cost you more upfront the extra price you pay today will pay for itself in the future.

That way you will eventually even save money because you will have something really well made that will last years without having to replace it.

Of course, everybody is different and has a unique budget to work with but the best advice you can follow is to go for quality over price.

One final tip:

Try not to be cheap when it comes to your safety.

Yes, you may pay a little extra now but please answer this question honestly:

What do you prefer?

Paying extra for a pull-up bar and additional bolts or paying the same amount or even more to the doctor?

8. Do you need padding on a pull-up bar? (Padding vs No Padding)

While having padding on a pull-up bar isn’t very important it could help a lot when it comes to comfort and having a better grip. But even if you pull-up bar doesn’t have any padding that isn’t a big issue because you can always use some chalk or buy a pair of workout gloves if your hands become slippery.

If you’re like me having extra pull-up bar padding wouldn’t matter that much but not all people are the same.

Hands? I’ve never heard of them…

Let me give you a quick example when it would be a good idea to have good padded grips on a pull-up bar.

If your hands sweat a lot (yes that is actually a condition a lot of people suffer from) or if you don’t have a lot of grip strength then it would be a useful thing to have extra padding because it helps with friction and makes it easier to hold for a longer period of time.

But even if your chosen pull-up bar doesn’t have any built-in padding it’s not the end of the world. You can wrap some cheap injury tape around the tube, wear gloves, use chalk or hold tight and don’t use anything.

After all that is the best way to increase your grip stength.

9. Is it important to have an adjustable pull-up bar or not?

Even if an adjustable pull-up bar is very rare it could be really helpful if you have this option available. The adjustability you get provides the freedom to change the height or space between the pull-up bar and your wall with only a couple of bolts. That way you will be able to easily adjust it specifically to your available space and height.

That by itself will have positive impact for your training and comfort.

So if you see something similar to a model you like that’s a very good sign.

But even if your favorite pull-up bar is not adjustable that doesn’t mean it’s bad. You still have the complete freedom to attach it anywhere you want so you can have the most optimal comfort and exercise freedom.

Important Notes when Mounting Your Pull Up Bar

There are a few things that are good to know about even before you own or mounted a pull-up bar.

Let’s check the first one…

Most pull-up bars are between 38 – 50 inches wide which is the compatible length for the average stud spacing of most houses.

Unfortunately, in some cases, the studs can’t be used for attaching the bar so you will have to attach a large board or some sort of timber to the studs.

After that, on top of added support, you will have to drill the holes and attach the pull-up bar tightly.

Another scenario in which you may add additional support is if your mounting wall is not that stable.

A very common way people do it is by adding 2×4’s for extra support.

It’s recommended to measure the height of the room in which you are going to install the equipment.

Do not forget to leave at least 30 inches above the bar so you can have enough space for movements such as muscle-ups and all other over-the-bar exercises.

This part is only important if the design of your pull up-bar allows you do to such exercises.

If you have to deal with a low ceiling make sure to mount your pull-up bar high enough so you can comfortably hang without your feet touching the ground if possible.

In the worst-case scenario, you will have to bend your feet backward until they nearly touch your upper thigh and do the hanging exercise that way.

And I will repeat this twice because it’s really important: don’t forget to add some space above the pull-up bar so you can have some extra headroom. You definitely don’t want to hit your head in the ceiling every time you use it.

4 Great Benefits of Using a Wall Mounted Pull Up bar

It’s always better to know what great benefits you can get by using a pull-up bar before you own one.

If case you are not very sure whether you should buy a pull-up bar or not, here are some great reasons to help you with your decision.

Let’s check them out!

1. Using a wall-mouned pull-up bar is safe and reliable

Even if wall-mounted pull-up bars are attached to the wall (or in some cases ceiling) they are actually pretty tough if attached properly.

Some of them are stuck tightly to the wall or ceiling with 4 to 8 long and strong bolts.

They are so strong that some models can hold up to 800 pounds while hanging on the wall.

They are also way more stable than a regular doorway or door frame pull-up bar because they rely on thick bolts mainly used in construction to hold you above the ground instead of friction or the door frame construction.

If mounted properly they can be extremely sturdy.

The best pull-up bars can withstand anything – from clapping muscle-ups up to the extremely explosive type of training.

2. Wall-mounted pull-up bars are the same as professional outdoor pull-up bars (You can do the same stuff)

Some wider wall-mounted pull-up bars are so long and spacious that even 2 people can use them at the same time side by side similar to the average outdoor pull-up bar.

And let’s not forget that the more grip space you have the wider pull-up variations you can do.

You will also have extra space to do all kinds of 360-degree movements people do outside.

But in order to be able to do that, your pull-up bar must have enough space between the frame and the wall.

And if you have a high ceiling in your room or garage you can even do proper muscle-ups and all sorts of other useful calisthenic moves.

I have added 2 really wide models specifically designed for this type of training above.

3. Wall-mounted pull-up bars provide a great variety of exercises and movements

If you are into calisthenics or just love to have some variety of different exercises within your workouts you will just love this part.

Some specific pull-up bars have a lot of different types of grips build in them.

Just imagine how epic and unique pull-ups you are capable of doing if you have all those grips.

And that’s not even the best part. Probably my favorite thing is that there are sets that include a dips station.

How cool is that?

Now you have the opportunity to train your chest and triceps as well as your back.

And the best part is that you will not pay an arm and a leg for that set.

Actually, it’s quite inexpensive compared to what you get.

So you can get everything you really need for calisthenics in one!

Epic right?

Another great plus you get by having a wall or ceiling installed in a pull-up bar in your room is that you can use it as a higher anchor point for resistance bands training. If your bar is wide enough you can even attach 2 bands on each side of it and do the famous chest crossover.

You can also use your bar to attach gymnastic rings, cable pulley, punching bag, and many other useful home gym accessories.

As you can see there are really a lot of great benefits with owning a pull-up bar at home.

And we are not over yet. I have one last good benefit to show you…

4. Owning a pull-up bar at home is really convenient and saves you time and money

By attaching a pull-up bar inside your room you get the opportunity to do muscle-ups and a ton of other exercises in the convenience of your own home.

It’s so easy when you can just wake up and literally start doing pull-ups within a couple of seconds.

It also saves you time, because you don’t need to go outside or to the local gym and search for the nearest place to be able to do pull-ups comfortably.

I know that most of you prefer to train on a pull-up bar outside with some fresh air. I prefer this too but nature doesn’t care what I or you prefer.

Having a home pull-up bar allows you to train no matter what the weather conditions outside are.

It can be rainy, cold, dark, or even snowy outside and you can still complete a great workout without any problems.

That’s the real beauty of having a choice.

When it comes to money it’s almost the same because you don’t need to pay anything for a gym membership or other expensive and bulky machines that will take a lot of space.

So you save both time and money. Who doesn’t want that?

How to install your wall-mounted pull-up bar (Step by Step Tutorial)

Step 1: Choose the best location for your wall or ceiling mounted pull-up bar. Make sure it has at least 30 inches above if you want to do some over the bar exercises such as muscle-ups, straight bar dips, etc.

Step 2: Remove the bar and all its components from the package and lay them down. Spread everything apart. Make sure to check if something is missing or is damaged. If that’s the case, contact the seller you have bought it from and ask for replacement or a refund.

Step 3: If there are instructions that come with the package make sure to read them carefully.

Step 4: Don’t forget to closely check out the quality of the mounting bolts and the other mounting equipment. If the mounting bolts look too short or narrow for the size of the bar take one, go to the nearest hardware store and buy longer and thicker bolts. Don’t forget to buy as many as there are in the original package and make sure they are specifically made for your wall material you are going to use them with.

Step 5: If you need to reinforce your wall use the steps from the previous chapter. Mark down the location of one of the upper mounting holes so the bar is tall enough to use it without your feet touching the ground if possible. Then use the bar itself to mark all the holes using a pencil. It would be easy if you have another pair of hands to hold the bar while you mark the spots.

Step 6: Before you begin to attach the pull-up bar make sure to use a strong, good quality power drill. Use it to pre-drill the holes for the bar. They must be deep enough so the entire bolt can fit in easily.

Step 7: Using a hammer, plug inside the mount bracket plugs. Make sure they are leveled to the wall and go all inside.

Step 8: Using the instructions, assemble your pull-up bar together. Make sure to attach the brackets and tighten all screws of the equipment nicely.

Step 9: You might need a second person for this part. Someone has to hold the bar aligned with the pre-drilled holes and the other will have to tighten the bolts one at a time. Make sure to do the process diagonally so they are equally tightened on all sides.

Step 10: Test the bar slowly and make sure that your feet are close to the ground when doing it. Slowly move your weight towards your hands until you are in the air. If the bar is wobbly make sure to check out where the wobble comes from and tighten the bolt even more.

Step 11: Congrats! You are finished! Enjoy your newly mounted pull-up bar! Now you can start doing pull-ups, chin-ups, and begin building even more size and strength.

Conclusion

Congratulations!

You’ve reached the end!

If you’ve read everything so far you should have a clear understanding of which pull-up bar is for you and your needs and which things are most important for you.

If that’s the case then what are you waiting for?

Go back and pick your favorite wall-mounted pull-up bar and start getting huge!

But if for any reason you are still overwhelmed and don’t know which one to pick don’t worry.

If I had the option to recommend you only 1 wall-mounted pull-up bar for any home gym or garage I would pick my favorite bar I currently have installed in my room – the Yes4All Heavy Duty Pull Up Bar without a second of hesitation. (click here to check it out)

This is the best wall-mounted pull-up bar I currently use a lot

I have chosen this pull-up bar to be the best because of a few very important things.

The first and obvious one is the fact that this pull-up bar is the widest (50 inches) and has one of the largest spaces between the bar and the wall (32 inches).

In addition to that, it’s also really well made from thick and solid steel and can withstand up to 500 lbs of weight (which is nearly 2/3 the amount of weight most similar pull-up bars can hold).

It’s also very stable, quite affordable, and easy to assemble and install.

The only problem I have with this pull-up bar is the mounting bolts but once you get better ones everything fits really well.

As you can see this pull-up bar is a beast and that’s why I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something solid in the long term.
